Plaxo found the solution to its caching and NoSQL scalability problems by using Schooner on IBM x86 servers equipped with 6 cores and 512 GB of flash memory. Rather than having to spread 640GB of cache capacity across 10 traditional x86 servers, Plaxo found that each Schooner-powered x86 server was able to handle the entire capacity and workload. This resulted in a 10X reduction in rack space, power and cooling. Plaxo configured Schooner-powered servers in pairs for transparent replication and automatic failover, assuring service availability.
