Director of Product Marketing

Schooner software gets the most out of HDDs and SANs and even more from flash memory or Flashcache, enabling dramatic datacenter footprint reductions and less sharding. Customers rely on Schooner to slash the downtime that costs revenue, customers, and reputation, and to cut spending on servers and the power, pipe, and people to run them.

Schooner is privately held and based in Sunnyvale, California. Our development team is mainly in Sunnyvale, with key staff in Texas, Oregon, North Carolina, and Georgia, and with a corps of dedicated contractors in our extended team worldwide.

Schooner is looking for a world-class Product Marketing Director to drive outbound product marketing, able to work with sales, product management, and our customers and make a meaningful contribution to our sales growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage, measure, and refine the overall marketing plan
  • Create and improve a sustained set of lead generation campaigns to build the sales pipeline to sustain our growth
  • Work with customers and prospects to describe the value of Schooner's solutions, and learn about customer business needs and resulting product requirements
  • Contribute to marketing collateral such as customer case studies
  • Work closely with industry analysts
  • Support Schooner partners
  • Contribute to Schooner's overall strategy and product direction

A qualified candidate must:

  • Have at least 5 years experience in a senior outbound marketing role for an enterprise-class software product
  • Be a great communicator in person and in writing (showing samples of personally-generated collateral will be an important part of the interview process)
  • Have meaningful success in a startup or larger company, with the launch of a new product
  • Be able to show how his or her marketing output enabled significant sales growth for his or her products
  • Have experience with the effective and measured use of blogging and social networks for marketing purposes
  • Know how to support sales models that mix direct sales with low-touch inside / web sales
  • Be fluent in the use of Salesforce.com, and Marketo, Leadlander or similar marketing and sales force automation tools
  • Have experience with open-source, freemium, and/or mixed open-source plus commercial license models
