Best-of-Show from an Integrated Approach
SchoonerSQL™ and Membrain™ (the smart memcached, optimized for flash memory) deliver top performance, minimize downtime, simplify scale out, and maximize datacenter efficiency. SchoonerSQL and Membrain are available on a wide range of standard x86 servers. How do we deliver such compelling advantages over roll-your-own solutions using the same x86 hardware and flash memory running the non-SchoonerSQL, NoSQL, or memcached offerings?
Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle Corporation, said in May 2010 that best-of-breed is good for dog shows, but not for software. Schooner's software fully exploits common, reliable, x86-based servers and blades with flash memory and uses them to maximum efficiency. We rely on the relentless march of Moore's law by the industry leaders in processor and flash memory technology.
But we don't leave you with the hard work of figuring out how to optimize and tune MySQL, memcached, or a NoSQL data store to enable maximum concurrency that actually exploits multiple cores. We don't ask you to figure out how to balance flash memory and DRAM and multiple cores to eliminate multiple bottlenecks simultaneously and deliver DRAM-like performance from a much larger amount of flash. And we don't ask you to solve the hard computer science problems of ensuring fully synchronous replication to enable immediate failover and minimize your downtime. We take a holistic, integrated view of the problem, and deliver "best-of-show" software that solves your real business problems. You can learn a lot more about some of the details for each Schooner product — such as the analysis and optimizations we did on InnoDB — in Solutions.
If you're using MySQL 5.1 or 5.5 you can install and be up and running SchoonerSQL in an afternoon, saving money and freeing up your old hardware for reuse elsewhere. SchoonerSQL is certified by Oracle/MySQL as 100% compatible MySQL Enterprise with InnoDB. If you're using memcached or Membase you can install and be in production with Membrain in an afternoon. Membrain is 100% memcapable. You can use Membrain on the same server both for a transient cache and a persistent data store.
You can get free open-source distributions of MySQL, memcached, and various NoSQL data stores. You can buy x86 servers with hard drives or, better, flash memory. You can install, optimize and tune. But you won't get the performance or out-of-the-box experience that you will with Schooner. And do you really want to spend time as your own systems integrator, when you can buy a lot more performance from Schooner for less money, less hassle, and no risk, on the same x86 servers?
Contact Schooner sales to discuss your datacenter scale-out problems and our solutions. We'll show you how to save on capex, save on opex, and scale out to meet your MySQL database and NoSQL data store or caching needs for capacity, performance, and availability: in a flash.
