Best-of-Show from an Integrated Approach

If you're using MySQL 5.1 or 5.5 you can install and be up and running SchoonerSQL in an afternoon, saving money and freeing up your old hardware for reuse elsewhere. SchoonerSQL is certified by Oracle/MySQL as 100% compatible MySQL Enterprise with InnoDB. If you're using memcached or Membase you can install and be in production with Membrain in an afternoon. Membrain is 100% memcapable. You can use Membrain on the same server both for a transient cache and a persistent data store.

You can get free open-source distributions of MySQL, memcached, and various NoSQL data stores. You can buy x86 servers with hard drives or, better, flash memory. You can install, optimize and tune. But you won't get the performance or out-of-the-box experience that you will with Schooner.
