Reduce Sharding and Consolidate Slaves

With traditional MySQL servers, when database administrators (DBAs) need high performance they have to constantly work to fit most of the database in main memory. They use a standard algorithm: when the database grows, they trim it; if they cannot trim, they shard it. Sharding requires client-side changes, adding to the programming burden. Schooner's MySQL Appliance enables significant master and slave consolidation — often 8-to-1 or to 10-to-1 — which greatly reduces complexity for DBAs and programmers.

Reduce Sharding by Consolidation of Multiple Masters

The high performance of the Schooner Appliance enables consolidation of multiple traditional MySQL/InnoDB masters onto a single Schooner Appliance, as shown below. Thanks to its high throughput a single Schooner Appliance assumes the workload of multiple traditional master nodes. It also provides headroom, reducing the need for application changes for sharding.

Consolidation of Multiple Slaves

The high performance of the Schooner Appliance enables 8 or more traditional MySQL/InnoDB slaves to be consolidated into a single Schooner Appliance, as shown below. This consolidation dramatically reduces overall cost and complexity of server deployment as well as the number of network connections required to connect database clients to slaves.
